Free doula!

My plan is to have a natural birth with no meds and the least amount of interventions as possible. I knew I would need a lot of support to accomplish this goal. Ken will be a HUGE help, but it's always nice to have someone there just for you with some prior knowledge. We have a doula and midwife training school here in Portland. We can't afford to pay a doula, but I emailed and asked if they had any interns that needed the hours and would do it for free. I got a response pretty quickly. She asked me some questions and then matched me with a doula who had experience with some of my preferences. She will be available by phone between now and my due date. She will be on call 24 hours a day for 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks after my due date until I go into labor and will stay with me the whole time and then for 2 hours after the birth to help get breastfeeding started and make sure the initial recover is going well. Then, she will come back twice during the two weeks postpartum at home. There are also several seminars included for natural pain management, labor positions and comfort massage. I'm pretty excited that we get all this and won't have to pay a penny. :)

  1. That's awesome!!! What a great deal :) I wish I could've gone all natural too. But, alas, Isabelle was stubborn and wanted to be born breach! Not much has changed... she's still stubborn! So excited for you guys though :D

  2. Well, I haven't gone all natural yet. I may end up with a breach baby too, or something else to ruin the plan... :)

  4. Wow, you are MUCH more brave than I am. Logan's been waking me up every morning with the hiccups. Can't wait for you to feel your little bug moving!

  5. It will be tough Carrie, but, women have been doing it for how many years before we came up with drugs? :) I can do it! Oddly, I'd rather have the pain than the epi in my back... ugh...

  6. Tammy, I have been getting odd sensations every once and a while for the last week. Definitely not regular and by the time I realize something is going on it's over and I figure I just imagined it... or have gas... :)

  7. I was about 17 wks when I felt him move the first time.. with the girls it was earlier because there was alot of playing going on in there. Gas is painful! Especially when your intestines are all cramped up because of the baby. It will feel like a flutter or vibration.
