Just when you think everything is going great with no problems... bam! I got my blood results back for the down syndrome and trisomy testing. Apparently, based on my blood work, we have a 1 in 6 chance of having a down syndrome baby. That's WAY higher than a 50 year old woman. They gave several reasons why my levels were so low. Dating was off by a couple of days, fetal demise, normal variations in my levels and a true risk of down syndrom or trisomy.
The genetic counselor saw my history of miscarriages and was nice enough to schedule an ultrasound today so that I didn't have to wait to find out if the baby died or not. Luckily, the baby looked great, had a nice strong heartbeat and was moving around during the ultrasound.
We now just have to wait until the nuchal translucency test on December 11. They will measure how thick the skin is on the back of the baby's neck. Too thick is indicative of down syndrome.
